Recently Adopted Cats

This page shows some of the cats we have recently placed. We have a constantly changing collection of cats looking for good homes and sometimes a match won't work out. Also, for our friends who like to follow cats on our site, we hope to let you know what kind of home they have each gone to.

You can also visit with some of our former foster cats and read their success stories.

Even if your perfect cat is in our adopted group, you can fill out our I'm Interested form or call our cat coordinator at 503-284-8768 to find out what cats that might not be on the site yet.

Some of our cats have YouTube videos where you can see them in action:

BenFrank

BenFrank is a handsome dilute tuxedo born in August of 2003. He has a sweet nature common to all tuxedo cats; he loves affection and is happy to warm your lap. We think he may have some Maine Coon or other large breed in his background; he is a big guy with huge feet and a large head that he likes to use to head bump when he wants attention.

This is one great cat, and is a favorite among our volunteers. He is quite laid back, very affectionate and cuddly, and LOVES people. BenFrank is also what some might call a “chatty Cathy,” so if you’re looking for a conversationalist, this is your man.

BenFrank loves sofa time and will sleep on the bed as well. He has a soft purr that turns on the second a person looks his way – even if that person is talking to him from across the room. He likes to play a little but toys are not his favorite. He often creates his own games of pouncing on imaginary mice and chasing them from room to room. When he really gets going, BenFrank loves to chase the laser dot. Bird- and squirrel-watching are a favorite pastime whenever his person is occupied with something other than him.

BenFrank's sweet nature is even more impressive in light of the recent events of his life. BenFrank appeared hungry and matted in the yard of an animal-lover who promptly recognized a life in need. While she was trying to find a shelter or home for him, he was hit by a car and one of his hind legs was shattered beyond saving. After amputation and rehabilitation, BenFrank has come back better than ever. He has adapted and moves around very well. He runs, jumps onto the sofa and the bed (and your lap, for that matter), and as far as he knows, he's just a regular guy.

BenFrank is an alpha cat. He can live with other cats if he simply must, but he much prefers to have his people to himself. He really sees himself more as a person than a cat. What BenFrank really wants is his own person or people who will appreciate the magnificent boy he is without sharing their attention with other pets.

BenFrank loves attention and tolerates the icky parts that go with it, including clipping his nails. He really enjoys combing, which is great because he’s got a long, thick coat. He has a bit of a sensitive tummy, and may require medication (which goes right on top of his food) on a permanent basis. We should also mention that this boy really loves his food, and needs to be in a home who can hold out against his “I’m wilting from hunger” routine. BenFrank has been neutered and is up to date on his vaccines. If you are interested in learning more about this persevering guy, please fill out our I'm Interested form or call our cat coordinator at 503-284-8768.

Tony & Rose

Meet Rose and Tony, born in July of 2009. These two are a closely bonded pair who may be siblings or may just be best friends, but they are definitely interested in a home together. Rose is a delicate girl who looks like she might be part Russian Blue, while Tony looks like a Maine Coon, although he is not as large as most Maine Coons his age. This lively pair will keep you hopping and laughing. They are curious, active, and playful, and always entertaining. They also both like a good lap when they slow down.

Tony and Rose love people just as much as they love each other. They have been very good and engaged with other cats, visitors, and small children. They have excellent manners (but they are still young, so sometimes their excitement can overtake them).

Because Rose and Tony are so playful and active, they want to find a home where they can have tons of fun with each other and their people without worrying about breaking the china.

Margaret

Margaret is neat, sweet, and petite, with a spunky and curious personality—and she's a fabulous leaper! She is a black tabby, with very unusual coloring and markings. She loves chasing flying things through the air and will surprise you with her mid-air acrobatics. After playtime, she loves a good cuddle and has a purr that will warm your heart. She is friendly and outgoing, and loves people attention enough to greet new people as soon as they walk in the room. Margaret figures the faster she gets her people trained, the more love and attention she'll get! She is happy to cuddle and be a lap cat regularly, and is also fond of sleeping with her people on the bed from time to time.

Margaret is easygoing about things like nail trimming, and enjoys her daily combing. She is very playful and needs some energetic interaction with her people every day. She has a gorgeous silky coat that is neither short nor medium, but a little something in between, and sheds very little. Her tail is a lovely plume that she likes to swish from side, and often expresses her moods and thoughts. Margaret was born in May of 2009 and is a very petite girl that will fit nicely in someone’s lap.

Ladykin & Crackerjack

Ladykin and Crackerjack are a fantastic mother and son kitty duo who are in search of a new forever home together. We estimate Ladykin to be approximately nine years old, and Crackerjack is 8 years old.

Ladykin is a petite white bundle of love; affectionate, outgoing, and friendly to all. She is a well-rounded kitty who loves to alternate cuddling with playtime. When she’s not basking in the comfort of a warm lap, she can be found madly chasing a laser light or playing with her catnip toys.

Crackerjack is slightly more reserved than his mom but is friendly and happy to meet new strangers who want to pay attention to him and give him love. He is a sweet-natured gentle giant who lifts and waves his paw to express himself.

Crackerjack and Ladykin love cuddly humans, lots of pets, and good belly rubs. Observing the world and outdoor squirrels and birds from the comfort of a window, eating, playing, and neighborhood strolls also make the list of favorites. Both cats are indoor-only cats, but have been leash trained and thoroughly enjoy being outdoors. Ladykin is the explorer who likes to lead the way while Crackerjack sniffs all the interesting scents and snacks on grass.

Zelda

Zelda is a charming gray tabby who was born in August of 2009. She is tall and slender and we suspect that she will always be on the petite side, although she is still growing.

Zelda has a lively curiosity about everything that goes on in the house and always wants to help her foster mom. She has lots of affection to give, and is a very loving lap cat.

Zelda plays well by herself, but would like to have a playmate (preferably another young cat like herself) to do all the fun things cats do together. She is also happy to play with people, of course! Zelda is cautious around strangers, but loves people when she realizes everyone is friendly.

Zelda had hip surgery in October of 2009. After her surgery, she has healed completely and does all the running, playing, and fun-making that she wants. However, Zelda would not do well in a home with young children since she needs to be handled with care and gentleness.

Bella & Bijou

Bella and Bijou are two tightly bonded dilute tortoiseshell sisters born in the summer of 2007. They are so close that they have never spent a single day apart, and they are looking for a home together.

While they love each other, both sisters love people immensely and are big snugglers! They are definitely sisters and have several traits and habits in common: running to greet their people each day when they walk in the door (what a nice sight after a long day at work), loving to sleep on the bed and cuddle through the night, playing with the laser light and Da Bird, and a chirpy way of chatting that is hilariously cute.

Differences? There are a few.

Bella (left) is extraordinarily affectionate and tends to be a houseguest’s best friend once she’s gotten used to the new person. She’s happy to lounge all day or night in a comfortable lap, and is not shy about demanding her fair share of love and attention. She has a sweet gaze and is happy to bestow it happily on the people she loves, purring like a motor all the while.

Bijou (right) loves running water. She peeks her head around the shower curtain whenever anyone takes a shower, and has trained her foster mom to leave the faucet dripping for a few minutes of playtime each morning. She likes computer time and is highly amused by typing fingers, happy to interrupt for petting during keyboarding breaks.

Bella and Bijou are both lovable and loving, but can be shy at first. They are slightly timid and slow to get used to new people, but once they’ve come out of their shell they are friendly and affectionate girls. While they are very close to each other, they’re not overly fond of their fellow foster cats, and would be most happy in their very own home with just the two of them and their people.

Grace & Duke

Meet Grace and Duke! These charming kids were born sometime in August of 2009, and came to us after being rescued from living under a porch. We’re not sure if they are littermates or just best pals since infancy, but either way they’re bonded for life and are looking for a permanent home where they can play and cuddle and grow old together.

Given their rough start in life, Grace and Duke came to us with a few health problems to take care of before they could be ready for their new home. Among the problems they had were serious upper respiratory infections (which caused Grace to lose an eye). They are in good health now, though, and Grace bounces around and plays like any kitten with two good eyes – it hasn’t slowed her down at all!

Grace has a happy soul and a gentle, sunny nature. For Grace, everything is a potential toy, especially if it rolls, and everyone is a potential friend, especially if they have a lap and a cuddle to offer. Duke is a little shy and more cautious, but also playful and cuddly on his own terms.

These two are fast friends, playing and sleeping together, watching the world go by from any available window, washing each other, and eating off each other's plates. Grace can be happy anywhere, but Duke is looking for a calm forever home, preferably without children or dogs.

Fluffy

Fluffy is a beautiful and playful longhair tabby that looks just like a Maine Coon. He was born in December 2006, but he is one very playful 3-year-old. We think he is the perfect combination of well-behaved adult and playful kitten!

Among Fluffy's favorite toys are his feather wand and crinkly cat tunnel, but any toy is ideal if you will join in the fun with him. He likes to have a bit of playtime each day, and to reward you as a playmate he will entertain you with his extraordinary gymnastic abilities. We call him “The Flying Squirrel” because he flies through the air with all fours spread out as he chases his feather wand. With his long golden brown coat flying, he bears quite a resemblance to his nickname.

During quiet time, Fluffy likes to be held and sometimes rocked like a baby in your arms. In addition to cuddle time when he’s awake, he is also happy to snuggle on the bed at night. Because Fluffy’s fur is long, he does require some brushing to keep it silky and manageable. He behaves like a good boy while he is being groomed, and he is also quite tolerant of having his nails trimmed.

Fluffy had a hard life on the streets for quite a while, but quickly came to love the pampered life as an indoor cat. He adjusted well to his new life, and seems to be looking forward to finding that special someone just waiting to give him the attention and love he deserves. Fluffy is quite easygoing and will do best in a home without other cats or pets.

Huey & Louie

Eat, sleep, play and cuddle…is there more to life than this? Not for Huey and Louie. These handsome young tabby kittens know that being so tightly bonded makes them twice as fun, twice as cute, and twice as loving. And don’t worry about telling them apart, Huey has the white feet and Louie has the brown…errrr…we think.

Born on October 31, 2009, this pair may not have known a permanent home but they do know how to show affection. They both love to cuddle and are even happier if there’s space on your lap for one more! These guys are curious, energetic, and just plain fun. And if you love cats that purr-purr-purr, you should hear these two purring in stereo.

Although their personalities are still developing, there are some definite characteristics that are already shining through. Louie has never met a meal he didn’t like and couldn’t finish in five minutes or less. He also has taken to sitting on our laps and watching as we use our laptops. Huey seems to be slightly more inquisitive and a little more daring. He’ll be the first to follow you wherever you go. Louie is quicker to adapt to new situations, but overall Huey seems to be the more outgoing of the duo.

When it comes to playtime, they play with anything and everything that comes in a package, bag, or box (including the package, bag, or box). Got some string? A catnip mouse? A ball? Maybe even a game of tag? Why not!

Already have furry friends? That’s okay for Huey and Louie. They get along well with other cats and have no problem sharing their toys, warm spots in the sun, or the bed. They just want you to know that they draw the line at sharing their food. After all, being a kitten is hard work.

Rita

Is Rita a longhaired, bobtailed calico cat, or is she an Australian Shepherd in disguise? Rita is a beautiful blazed redhead with a delicate face, and always wears what appear to be black opera gloves with immaculate white fingertips. But from the back, she has the coloring and perky bobtail of an Aussie. And when she is happy, she wags her little tail just like a dog! (See her video for details about that.)

We guess Rita's age to be about five years. She was left at a veterinary hospital by a Good Samaritan, and had obviously been living in poor conditions recently. But her overall health was good, her attitude is wonderful, and she has quickly learned to love the indoor life, with soft beds and regular meals. She's returned to normal weight, grown a lush, lovely coat and is now ready for her closeup—and her perfect, permanent home.

Rita's personality is also a mix of cat and dog qualities. She's very playful and absolutely loves her toys. She can entertain herself quietly for long periods, but she's always glad to see her people come home, because it's even more fun when there's somebody else to play with. Rita enjoys some warm, purry lap time but she's not clingy or demanding about it. Sometimes she just wants to be close, and curl up at your feet like a loyal dog. If a dog could purr.

Rita is a very easy cat to live with. She doesn't scratch the furniture (as long as there are cardboard scratchers available) and she doesn't mind having her nails trimmed. Her coat is long, but doesn't mat or shed badly, and she enjoys being combed, so a brief bit of daily maintenance will keep her looking good. She has excellent litter box habits, and no food issues. She is tolerant of other cats, but doesn't seem to need a cat buddy to be happy, and probably would prefer to be the only cat, if given the choice. Since she doesn't care much for being picked up and carried around, a family without very young children will suit her best. We're not sure about her experience with dogs, but we suspect she could live with a dog who understands that cats must rule.

Tulip

Tulip is a sweet, well-mannered, quiet, and friendly girl who was born in August of 2006. She was left behind when her previous owners moved away, but she has made herself home with us and we love her! If you're looking for a low-key, low-maintenance companion, Tulip is definitely your girl. She isn't pushy or demanding, but she does very much want to be near her people. She adores being brushed and petted, and particularly likes to stretch out on her back while having her belly rubbed.

Tulip is happy to climb into available laps and sit happily to help you watch a movie, read a book, or work on your computer. She's not extraordinarily playful, but she does enjoy some gentle games with her toys, especially if there’s a person around to enjoy it with. She is accepting of other cats, but doesn't seem to be interested in having a cat buddy; Tulip prefers the company of people.

Even if you don't see the perfect cat for you in this list, you can start the adoption process by filling out our I'm Interested form or calling 503-284-8768 to find out about cats that haven't been listed here yet.

Sammy

Sammy is a very cute Siamese/Tabby mix born in June of 2008. He was evicted from his home when his family got a new kitten and decided they did not want Sammy any longer. This smart boy immediately found the nearest ARCF volunteer and began camping out on her porch.

Sammy has adapted nicely to life in a loving indoor-only cat home. He enjoys being stroked and held, and even started purring after a few weeks. He has learned to play, and especially loves to have his fluffy ball toys thrown around the room so he can bat at them and show you just how much fun he has (and is). Now that he has decided he likes being in a home where he’s loved, Sammy follows his foster mom all over the house and will practically purr on command. He is beginning to understand the wonderful perks of laps, and has begun jumping into them of his own accord. He also likes to be picked up and cradled, and in return he will keep your feet nice and warm at night.

Given that Sammy had to learn to play and live happily with people, we believe he was mistreated in his former life. Sammy still flinches just a bit from time to time and we think he will do best in a patient and loving adults-only home.

Sammy definitely wants to be an only cat. After being booted out of his home for a new kitten, he is just a little protective of his space and his people.

Chance

Chance is a gorgeous shorthair silver tabby. Born in July of 2002, Chance truly lived up to his name after he was rescued from the streets and given a chance at a safe, comfy life. Chance was six months old when he was rescued, so it took him some time to get used to the life of a domesticated cat. Now, however, he revels in all the comforts of an indoor home (and the people in it)!

This charming, goofy boy has interesting quirks and plenty of personality. Things Chance likes: people, belly rubs, cuddling, people, TV (what a captivating box!), his favorite cat tree, people, heights, and a blue zebra-print bed. Did we mention he loves people? Chance also loves his Furby, a small ball he bonded with as a kitten. He carries Furby around, placing it in important spots like Chance’s favorite window, next to his food, and on the bed.

Chance is quite a big kitty with long legs and a long body. Nonetheless, he has never seen a lap too small for him! Chance is a sweet cat with a sunny nature, and sort of a goofball, really. He simply loves attention with lots of pets, tummy rubs, and snuggling. One night his foster mom woke up to find him snuggled up against her, happily purring away and kneading away. Now he is thrilled to sleep on the bed all night. Chance has a quiet purr that you can feel more than hear, and drools ever so slightly when he’s happy and relaxed. He talks a bit, but most of his conversation is affection-related (“Do you see how the top of this cat tree is the perfect height for petting?”).

Chance hasn’t lost his kittenish playful ways, but is a behaved grown-up who minds his manners and hygiene. He appreciates routine and predictability and can be a bit timid, so he loves a calm household with a low level of chaos. Chance is a people-pleaser and is happy when his people are happy with him—he's a huge fan of "Good Boy!" and other positive reinforcement. He does not like dogs, and prefers not share his home with cats, so he needs to go to a home that is looking for an “only child.”

Truman & Misty

Even though they are not siblings, Misty and Truman are two of the most bonded cats we have ever fostered. Misty was born in 2004 and Truman was born in June of 2005. Their young mom passed away suddenly and they were separated for a short time. They did not do well apart, however, and upon reuniting they picked up right where they left off: snuggling side by side.

Misty is an attention hog and even though she loves Truman very much, she wants to be right up front when the affection and attention starts. Have you ever seen a cat shove another cat out of the way? She has a sweet nature and will help Truman through transitioning into their new home since she is not shy with strangers. This girl has very interesting coloring and all who meet her pronounce her exotically gorgeous.

Truman has a very tender spirit and is shy with strangers. He adjusts relatively quickly and then becomes quite the character. Although he acts coy, once Truman trusts a person he likes to curl up and make biscuits in the air while being stroked. He loves to be brushed and often fetches his foster mom to get her combing tools and get down to the business of keeping him pretty. He’s a smart boy and knows that he needs to be combed every day to prevent his lovely thick coat from becoming matted. Both Truman and Misty are tolerant of nail trimming. They share a love of laps, combing, Food with a capital ‘F,’ and are well-mannered house cats.

Duncan

Imagine opening your door one morning to find a cat carrier on your doorstep. Then you look inside and see . . . Duncan! We don't know who or what brought him to that particular house, but they had no room for more cats. So, after being bounced around to a few other places where he wasn't totally welcome, a Good Samaritan stepped in and asked us to help find Duncan the perfect, permanent home. The first place we took him was to the vet, who determined that Duncan was born in March of 2009.

We always take time to get to know our rescued cats, to see what “features” and “bugs” are included in their personalities, and to let them settle in and get comfortable in our foster homes. With Duncan, that took about five minutes. He is as sweet as he is gorgeous. Other than the vacuum cleaner, nothing seems to bother him. He loves everything and everybody, including the foster cat he shares quarters with. After seeing the two of them together, it is clear that Duncan would like to go to a home where he can have a cat buddy. Duncan is easygoing, playful, affectionate, and very low-maintenance. We don't know how he gets along with dogs or young children, but we suspect with the proper introduction, he would do fine.

Although Duncan obviously has some Siamese or other exotic genes in his background (look at those blue eyes!), you'd never know it by his personality. He's not vocal, and he's not very agile or acrobatic; in fact, he's a bit of a klutz. Ok, he's a total klutz. Also, he doesn't have that Siamese trait of trying to get into and onto everything in the house. He's pretty happy just to play with his toys on the floor, then have a nice cuddle on the couch. He does love to climb up the cat tree and sit in the window, happily observing the big world outside. Duncan loves being combed and brushed, he's quite agreeable about having his nails trimmed, and he has perfect litter box habits. He has a good appetite, in fact he tends to like his chow a little too much, so he needs a family who will monitor his intake and make sure he gets some active play every day.

Tigger

Tigger is a friendly and active orange and white teenager who was born in August of 2008. Tigger loves to play and wrestle with the younger cats in his foster home and will also wash and sleep with whichever one is willing to cuddle with him. He is happy to meet and play with any visitors who happen to stop in, but he prefers to be properly introduced first. Once he accepts you as a real friend, he enjoys a good lap for a nap, and likes to sleep on the bed at night, (under a blanket is best). Tigger is a curious boy who likes to explore, and always wants to find out what YOU are up to and join in if you will let him.

Tigger did not have a best friend among the other cats in his foster home, but would like to have someone to be pals with, to play and wrestle with, and join him in enjoying the world. He would not be happy as a single cat.

Mezza

Mezza is a lovely and sweet 9-year-old who is very people-oriented. With those blue eyes she is part-Siamese, and we're guessing she's got Maine Coon in her as well (look at that lush coat)! She has a great purr and carries herself like the queen she considers herself to be. She has beautiful blue eyes and a gorgeous chocolate-cinnamon coat. She sheds very little but loves to be brushed. One of Mezza's favorite games is to attack the toilet paper, unrolling her adversary as she plays. Given other cat toys, Mezza is usually happy to play constructively, rather than destroying your toilet paper. She is a bit of a cuddlebug and loves to lay lap-side for pets and love, but prefers to arrive there under her own steam.

Mezza has a lovely combination of sweetness and playfulness. She has lived with (and is great with) children and other cats. We don't know if she's been dog-tested, but suspect that she would do well after a short adjustment period.

Even if you don't see the perfect cat for you in this list, you can start the adoption process by filling out our I'm Interested form or calling 503-284-8768 to find out about cats that haven't been listed here yet.

Jack & Joker

Meet Jack and Joker. Aren't they adorable? Born in August of 2009, these guys have energy and curiosity PLUS they are both playful and loving!

Jack is a lovely brown tabby who knows that everyone exists to admire and play with him, and he's willing to demand attention when he wants it. Be prepared for Jack to cuddle up on you as soon as you sit down. In fact, his favorite place to sleep is inside his foster mom's sweater, often when she is still wearing it! Jack is self-confident and outgoing; definitely the leader in this duo.

Though Joker is a little bit reserved, he is quite the cuddler once he's comfortable with new people. He is happy to let his pal, Joker, lead the way into new challenges or meeting new people. He tends to study a situation before diving in and starts off a little reserved when meeting people he doesn't know. However, while Jack is distracting you with his antics and cuddling, you may find that Joker has snuck in quietly and untied your shoes for you, so he can play with your laces.

These boys are still young and learning. They have the activity levels of kittens; both are cheerful and are curious about everything. They are also entertaining lap cats, and love to snuggle once they've exhausted themselves with playing and exploring.

Sheba

Sheba is very affectionate, with a laid back attitude common to black cats. She is approximately seven or eight years old - old enough to have good manners, but young enough to be playful and entertaining.

We estimate that Sheba was born sometime in 2001, but she is still quite the playful girl. Sheba’s current favorite game is hide-and-seek behind a curtain, calling until her foster mom “finds” her and then rolling over for a vigorous tummy rub. She is a total lap cat. Also, Sheba loves food and needs a person who can regulate her diet and withstand her “puppy dog eyes.”

She has a chirpy meow, which she uses often to let you know when she’s ready to play, when she’s hungry, or when she just wishes you’d sit down so she can climb on your lap. She is both inquisitive and exploratory, and adaptable enough to make herself at home just about anywhere. Her favorite toys include anything on a string and a laser light, and she is currently on a strict exercise regimen that includes daily weight lifting (carrying around her favorite toy) and running (after the pretty red dot).

Sheba does not get upset easily, and has a very sassy and confident personality. She prefers to be an “only child,” and isn’t particularly interested in sharing her people with other cats as they take away from her attention time, She is not easily ruffled, though, and we suspect she would do just fine with dogs.

Ben & Squeaky

Born in the spring of 2009, this bonded pair provide plenty of entertainment.

Ben is a goofy tabby boy who has very distinct tabby stripes and spots. Ben always loves playing hide and seek with his kitty friend Squeaky, or with available people. His favorite toy is a little furry mouse which he, quite entertainingly, stalks and flips in the air. When he exhausts himself with playtime, he often likes to climb into a nearby lap for a nap and an endearing cuddle. He also has a motor that just won’t stop when he is content or well-pleased. One stroke and this little guy is purring louder than most full-size cats we know.

Squeaky is a darling boy who has a very sweet and gentle personality. He has beautiful shiny black fur that he keeps meticulously groomed when he isn't busy grooming his friends (Ben often benefits from Squeaky's hygienic habits). Squeaky is very curious and likes to investigate the things that most cats are afraid of, such as vacuum cleaners and running water. A cute kitten like Squeaky makes even vacuuming fun, but watch out for him surprising you in the shower first thing in the morning!

Both Squeaky and Ben are affectionate, snuggly boys who love to curl up and sleep next to their people all night long when they're not burning off their kitten play energy.

Even if you don't see the perfect cat for you in this list, you can start the adoption process by filling out our I'm Interested form or calling 503-284-8768 to find out about cats that haven't been listed here yet.

Tener

Tener is outgoing but takes a little bit of time to transition and settle into new homes. Once he begins to feel at home in new surroundings, however, his personality really comes out. Tener loves his furry mice and other toys but plays with them in his own individual way: he plops himself right on top of them like a hen on an egg. He has gorgeous green eyes; a few white hairs on his chest and a small white patch on this belly break up his all-black profile. Tener loves to lay across your lap to allow you adequate time to admire his soft and shiny coat. He even enjoys laying on his back to provide sufficient access to his tummy.

Rosie and Spencer

These dynamic kittens are siblings and soul mates, born in June of 2009.

Spencer is Gorgeous with a capital G, and this is one boy who doesn’t mind being pretty. He has lovely sky blue eyes and a creamy soft coat that simply begs to be stroked. He is always on the prowl for something to pounce on, play with, or chase. He is happy to play with everyone, even his 70-pound doggie foster brother who wrestles with and slobbers on Spencer in equal turns. Spencer is a social butterfly who is always up for fun and adventure: he helps in the kitchen, accompanies his foster mom on laundry runs in the basement, and stages ambushes from hidden corners. When he has worn himself out he finds a quiet corner with Rosie to recharge his batteries.

Rosie is a beautiful dilute calico, who acts shy upon first meeting and turns into a friendly little companion when she feels comfortable with new acquaintances. Rosie loves to play but when playtime is done, it’s time to find the nearest lap to cuddle up on. She is an enthusiastic fan of food: she sings and chirps as she waits for her morning meal. Rosie has a completely captivating personality and absolutely has a special quality about her; she plays and cuddles her way into the heart of everyone she meets.

Mittens

Mittens was born June 17, 2009 but this little guy will not always be so little. He is growing like a weed! Mittens has a big personality to match what we think might turn into a large adult size. As with many tuxedo cats, Mittens is very easygoing and adaptable.

Mittens is very friendly with both people and cats. He has grown up with plenty of other cats around and is definitely looking for a home with at least one playmate. He can play a little hard (he is still a kitten after all) and will likely do best with someone who plays hard as well or who can teach him to play kindly with others. He likes having other cats around and often invites them to play, but he doesn’t seem to mind when other cats let him know they’re not in the mood for play. He just moves on to the next entertainment!

This handsome boy is quite the charmer. When his energy level ebbs, he loves a cozy lap to curl up in for some rest and recuperation. We’re guessing that as he moves into adulthood, he’s going to be quite affectionate and may turn into a great lap cat and cuddlebug.

Mittens is one fun-loving guy who has never met a potential playmate he didn’t like. This includes people he knows, strangers, and cats. Although he has not been dog-tested, we suspect that, given his playful and easygoing nature, he would do well with dogs.

Mosby & Pippa

These two kittens weren't rescued together, but bonded closely soon after meeting. Now that they are best buddies, Mosby (Mo) and Pippa are quite the entertaining pair. These two love to do almost everything together, including wrestling, chasing each other through their collapsible tube, and sitting at the window to watch birds. After playtime, they typically head for a snack, a scratch on their scratching post, and then a cuddle together on top of the cat tree.

Born in June or July of 2009, Mo came to us with two other kittens who have since been adopted. Luckily, Pippa came along just in time to wrestle, play, and cuddle with. Mo was skinny and had some health problems when he was first rescued, but he has emerged strong, happy, and healthy. He is very active but when he crashes, he likes to sleep high up in his cat tree. This boy is a very handsome creamsicle color, and will likely grow up to have the good nature typical of orange cats. Mo loves a good round of "cat tennis" or fetch. He likes to sit on top of the cat tree and bat toys back to his foster mom when she tosses them up to him. He will even retrieve toys when he’s in the mood (because he is, after all, a cat). He is friendly and loves human attention and will bring a sunny disposition to any home.

Pippa was born sometime around June of 2009 also, so is very close to Mo's age. She loves to be picked up and lay in her foster mom's arms, using a finger as a pacifier. It is adorable and seems to make her feel secure and cozy. Very much a feisty kitten, she loves to wrestle with her best friend, Mo. And while Mo plays his own fetching games, Pippa often keeps herself occupied attacking a mouse inside their collapsible tube or cuddling with her foster mom. After a good wrestle and dancing feather chase, Pippa likes to rest with Mo on the top of the cat tree to groom, cuddle, and nap.

Ginger

Ginger is a frisky, friendly teenage kitten, born in March 2009. She has the added attraction of a sleek and stunning red tabby coat with white socks and bib. Most cats of this coloring are male and have wonderful, easygoing personalities. Ginger has that great personality, and she falls into the 20% who are female, so she is an extra-special girl.

Like her namesake, Ginger can be spicy, sweet, or both at once. She has lots of energy and loves her toys, especially chasing the track ball and flying through the air after the mouse on a string. But she can also be happy playing with a crumpled piece of cardboard, a loose shoestring, or a dripping faucet. She has a great time racing up and down the cat trees, and then taking a break on the window seat where she can watch birds.

Ginger isn't quite a lap cat yet, but she is affectionate and does want to be near her people. She's getting more comfy on a lap as she grows up and gets to know us better.

Tabitha & Dusty

Dusty and Tabitha were born in the spring of 2009. They are lively and charming tortoiseshell sisters looking for a home where they can live happily ever after together. They do everything together and have never been separated, so only those looking for a bonded pair should apply.

These girls were born in the spring of 2009, and are full of rambunctious kitten energy! They adore chasing the laser dot, leaping in the air after their tassel-on-a-wand toy, chasing each other up and down cat trees, and engaging in general silliness and shenanigans. When they are worn out after all of their entertainment, they love a little bit of quiet time and a cuddle. These rambunctious and playful kittens turn snuggly and sweet at night when it's time to curl up in bed for a good cuddle.

This pair of beauties are short-haired, sleek, and impeccably groomed. They have good house manners, their litterbox habits are perfect, and they eat heartily.

Colette

Everyone who meets Colette agrees that the word best used to describe her is “regal.” Born in late 2008, she is a stunning shorthair Siamese. Her type of coloring is sometimes described as seal point or chocolate point, but whatever you call it, she's definitely an exotic beauty.

Like most Siamese, Colette is very intelligent; there is a lot going on behind those sky-blue eyes. She has quite an expressive vocabulary, but she speaks only when there is something important to say. She enjoys the company of people, and will honor you by arranging her elegant self on your lap from time to time. At other times she will prefer to sit near you and observe, offering pleasant companionship without interfering with your reading material, computer keyboard, or other handiwork. She enjoys playtime, but she maintains her dignity at all times and her movements are always charming and graceful.

Colette doesn't seek out the company of the other cats in the house, but she also doesn't disturb them. She seems to be above all of that, and prefers her own stimulating company rather than striking up acquaintances with other felines who don’t quite reach her level of sophistication. We don't know how she would get along with dogs or small children, but she would certainly require that her personal space be respected.

This refined young lady has excellent house manners, and follows an extensive grooming regimen which keeps her looking immaculate at all times. A small mid-morning snack of a few kibbles may be followed by 10 minutes of washing up, fixing her hair, and doing her nails before she is ready to move on to the next activity.

Emma

Born in the spring of 1997, Emma is a delightful, petite girl who would love a full-time lap. She spent her kittenhood outdoors as a young mother, raising litters of babies and hunting in order to feed them. Now retired, her children have left home and she is thrilled to be indoors with no worries or responsibilities. No empty nest syndrome here! Emma is very agile and enjoys playing with the laser light toy; you would never guess her to be twelve years old.

Although Emma has a bed of her own, she hopes that in her new home she will be allowed to sleep on the “real bed” with her person or people. She loves a good cuddle and will reward you with endless purrs.

Emma is in excellent health and has a big appetite despite her tiny stature. She has many good years ahead of her and we’re sure she'll bring joy to whoever was fortunate enough to adopt her.

Piper

Piper’s mantra is “People, People, People!”

Born in June of 2009, Piper loves her foster brothers and sisters, and even dogs, but people are on the very tip-top of her list. Although she’s still a young and playful kitten, Piper often prefers to curl up on her foster mom’s lap for loving cuddle time and bonding. Piper is unbelievably sweet and affectionate without being needy, and will make someone an attentive and loving companion.

Piper is both easygoing and outgoing, which turns into a fantastic mix of confident and playful. She meets and greets new people and is convinced that in all situations the more, the merrier.

Piper is one of those happy souls that brings joy to everyone she meets: she purrs constantly and is very easy to please. Piper does like the companionship of other animals and would like to go to a home where she will have a buddy in addition to her people.

Connie

Connie is a knockout with those ocean-blue eyes (which are just a teeny bit crossed!) and gorgeous markings. She's a little bit Siamese/Himalayan, a little bit tortie, and a whole lot of personality wrapped up in a petite, fluffy package. Her colors range from chocolate through caramel, butterscotch, cream, and pristine white.

As you can see, Connie enjoys perusing the paper in the morning, and keep an eye on your coffee cup because she also likes to slurp a bit of coffee (with cream, please) as she catches up on the news of the day.

Some of Connie's other favorite things include having her tummy rubbed, tossing toy mice down the stairs and chasing after them, being combed and fussed over, and working out on the cardboard scratcher (check out her YouTube video above).

She is very good at entertaining herself and spends a lot of time carrying her toys around, hiding and rearranging them. Connie wants to be near her people and can happily purr the hours away on a warm lap, once she's worn herself out from playing. She's very affectionate and wants lots of head bumps and eskimo kisses. If you really want to make her happy, just stroke her belly and watch her dreamily making biscuits in the air.

Although Connie loves people, so far she's not been very interested in buddying up with the other cats in her foster home. She is curious about them, and will share space on the bed or cat tree unless someone chases her away, but she is really her own favorite cat. She has not been tested around dogs or kids, but she is terrified of the vacuum cleaner and large plastic bags. When Connie first came to us, she had a very severe case of flea dermatitis (allergy to fleas). With treatment, her skin has healed and her fur is growing back into a very plush coat, but she must always be kept completely flea-free, to prevent a reccurence of the condition.

Ross, Heather, Roo, & Sheldon

This sweet litter of four was rescued from the wet streets by a caring couple. They are a well-socialized longhaired clan of two boys and two girls who are as entertaining as they are adorable!

Ross is the man of this litter. He’s the first on the scene to sample a new toy, jump to the far ledge of the cat tree, and lead the others on explorations of their foster home. He’s a loving boy who has a strong connection to his deceptively small sister, Heather. They often curl up together in a basket to groom and snuggle.

Heather is a little tomboy (weighing only 1-3/4 pounds), but every ounce is mighty. When first meeting her 12-pound foster brother, she huffed right up and let him know she’s a force to be reckoned with. Now settled into her foster home, she runs with the big kitties, and dogs Ross’ paws every step of the way. She will happily take on any heights or distances he will, and is right in the middle of the pack for any and all games.

Sheldon rounds out the male influence of the bunch. He’s a born explorer and ready to see what’s happening around the house. He was the first to tackle the stairs to the basement, where their two foster brothers hang out, and enjoys exploring the boxes and storage shelves with them in hot pursuit. Sheldon is typically at the center of any boisterous play, with Roo by his side.

Roo is the lady of the litter. She’s quite the snuggler, with a mile-wide playful streak. She’s happy both cuddling up and watching the action from a cozy spot, or diving right into the play at Sheldon’s side. Sheldon and Roo seem to have a psychic connection, and their fun usually draws the others into a frenzy. Day or night it’s time to play!

Nala

This gorgeous, aqua-eyed girl (and yes, that is the color of her eyes) is a four-year-old princess. Her golden tabby coat is always spotless, but she makes beauty look effortless. She is an unfortunate victim of the economic downturn and is in need of a home after her family found that they could no longer care for her. We can tell they took wonderful care of her, though, since she is in terrific health.

Nala’s favorite things include tummy rubs, windows with squirrels and birds on the other side, laser pointers, catnip mice, and TV night on the couch. She is a genuinely happy girl who can fill a room with the sound of her purr. She seems to like everyone, and is quite the flirt with visitors.

Nala loves to be close to her people, but she is still a cat and prefers to choose when and how she will grace you with her affection. She is becoming more of a cuddler every day as she settles in and relaxes her foster home and we suspect that there’s a lap cat lurking inside her, waiting to come out as soon as Nala feels completely safe and secure.

Nala is a girly-girl: dainty, playful, and graceful. She has a quiet meow that politely asks if she might sit next to you, please. She also has excellent litter box habits and is happy to abide by all her foster mom’s rules.

Scottie

At about two or three years old, Scottie has a loving personality and an adventurous spirit. He is the Sherlock Holmes of cats as he likes to investigate every nook and cranny from time to time to make sure nothing new has popped up. He enjoys heights and the aerial view he gets from up there. It’s the best spot to watch all the commotion happening below. He never stops collecting evidence.

Scottie was left behind when his person was evicted. We were told his dad was a breeder of Scottish Folds but our vet tells us that Scottie’s ear is an in vitro deformity. You often see this in a cat’s tail but not often with their ears. We think this adds a touch of individualism to this gentle guy.

Once settled into his permanent home, Scottie will become a cuddler and will expect good conversation from time to time. After all, once all the evidence has been collected you will need to know his findings.

Grace

At five pounds, this dainty little girl is very sweet and loving. Born in May 2006, Grace loves to be held and will reward you with a demur little purr. She loves to sleep with her people and has terrific house manners.

Grace does well with other cat-friendly felines and dogs, but does not have the self-confidence to stand up to cats and dogs who tease her. She is looking for a home where she can get people attention and in return will dispense unending purrs and love.

She is a playful girl and will tolerate combing. She knows how important pedicures and looking good are for a little princess.

Chrissy & Anna

Anna and Chrissy are playful and engaging short-haired, Siamese-mix sisters looking for a home where they can entertain and be entertained nonstop happily ever after. They are the surviving pair from a litter of four and have never been separated, so they are looking for a home built for two. Anna is the leader, and shows her little sister how everything is done. Once observed, Chrissy will take the leap and do whatever big sis does—she has learned her lessons well.

Chrissy and Anna were born in late September, and are 100% kittens who love endless sessions playing with their busy-box, ball-in-a-circle, and wrestling with their foster brothers! They love running through the house, exploring every inch of their domain, and playing with the many kitty toys they scrounge from hiding places under the furniture. They spend lots of time in their cat tree, and enjoy pouncing on unsuspecting neighbor cats.

Once their tummies are full and their batteries are winding down, Chrissy and Anna happily climb into bed to snuggle in with the humans. Both girls alternate between their kitty baskets and human cuddle-buddies. They also appreciate their foster brothers and sisters, and play hard but seem to understand the rules set by the senior kitties.

Chrissy and Anna are completely litterbox trained and never miss a powder room visit. "Fussy eaters" would not be an accurate moniker for these ladies, as they clean their plates at every meal. Both girls are on schedule to finish their vaccines and get spayed shortly. They have both tested negative for FelV and FIV.

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell is a gorgeous tortoiseshell with a great attitude, and if you believe that cats can smile, she seems to have a grin on her face most of the time.

Tinkerbell came to ARCF after her family lost their home due to the troubled economy. She had previously lived in a household with multiple adults and children, and is accustomed to a bit of commotion. She likes to keep busy, prefers to be with people versus alone, and is easily bored when she’s left on her own for long. She’s smart (as well as beautiful), and it did not take her long to adjust to her new surroundings when she arrived.

This lively 2-year-old has the spirit of a kitten. “Fun and Games” is her middle name. She loves to carry toys around in her mouth and a favorite trick is to hide them inside people’s shoes. Anything you toss, she will chase.

Once Tinkerbell decides you are her friend, there is no deterring her. She is, however, afraid of dogs, and due to her enthusiasm for chasing and retrieving, should not live in a home with birds or other small pets. She is such an intelligent and active girl that she is looking for a home where she gets a lot of attention and mental stimulus.

Esme

Meet Esme...if you are looking for an affectionate cat who gets along well with children, dogs, and other cats, Esme may be the cat for you.

Esme came to us as a young mother with kittens. After being a good Mom and raising her family well, she is ready for a home of her own and enjoying her own kittenhood a little later in life.

Esme is a very distinguished and classy cat. She is young, active, engaged, busy, and affectionate. She is not a lap cat exactly, because she’s often too busy to sit down and relax in a lap. She so loves people that she finds it a waste to sleep on them—far better to snuggle or play now when she can sleep later. Esme antics are varied: she’ll toy with her foster mom’s pencil as she’s writing, is a champion soccer player, and carries her favorite objects around the house in order to have them close at hand when playtime arrives. Currently, her favorite object is a large plastic watch that she takes everywhere with her. She enjoys chasing shadows, playing with fuzzy mice, and of course a good nap.

Esme is quite confident around other animals; she's a bit of a “close talker” and doesn't give other animals much personal space. She is not aggressive or antagonistic, but desperately wants to be everyone's best friend.

Flora & Water

These sisters were two of seven, all originally named after the elements. These gorgeous girls were born in the middle of April 2008.

They are energetic girls who play hard during the day and sleep well at night. Even being spayed did not take away their love of having their tummies rubbed...and they are very competitive when it comes to tummy rubs! They bird and squirrel hunt from the back of the sofa and stay entertained for hours this way.

Flora's soft brown coloring as well as her purr can bring that blood pressure right down. Water's tabby-on-white coloring makes her look quite smart. Both girls are great lap sitters.

Even if you don't see the perfect cat for you in this list, you can start the adoption process by filling out our I'm Interested form or calling 503-284-8768 to find out about cats that haven't been listed here yet.

Larry & Curly Sue

This duo was part of a trio of “stooges” that were rescued together. Although they are closely bonded, it is doubtful they are from the same litter. They were skinny and had severe upper respiratory infections when they were first rescued, but have emerged strong, happy kittens. Because of their history with respiratory infections, it is important that these kitties stay indoors and be kept up to date on their vaccines as they continue to grow.

Larry is the ringleader of this bunch. He was born in early June and, as such, is the oldest. He is very outgoing, and is always ready to play or get his belly rubbed. He likes plenty of attention and isn’t afraid ask for it and reward you with nose-kisses when he’s content. Because of his rough start in life, he has a slight cloud on his left eye that doesn’t affect his quality of life in any way. Everyone who meets Larry falls head-over-heels in love with this affectionate and outgoing tabby.

Curly Sue is a tiny little girl and is likely younger than Larry; we estimate that she was born in July. She is very dainty, and looks every bit the girl with her gorgeous medium-length coat and pretty blue eyes. She loves to cuddle but also manages to hold her own with her rough and tumble brothers, chasing toys and playing with the cat dancer. Very much a purr-head, she sticks close to her people whenever she wants to be cuddled and petted. She is highly social with other cats, and will do best in a home with one or both of her brothers, or another friendly cat to pal around with. Interestingly enough, Curly doesn’t have any eardrums. The lack of eardrums doesn’t cause her any problems, though, and she can still hear just fine. She is an active (but still delicate) princess.

Molly

Born in May 2009, this fun-loving girl is a wonderful bundle of entertainment!

Molly is polydactyl on all four feet! Those extra toes don’t slow her down a bit. She is the absolute sweetest kitten and doesn’t know how NOT to purr. She is small but holds her own against bigger kittens and cats. Molly is always on the lookout for play opportunities long after other kittens have fallen asleep. She is quite talkative when she isn't busy playing (and even sometimes when she is).

Molly is a highly affectionate kitten who seems to be on her way to becoming a loving lap cat. While Molly loves people, she also loves the company of other cats (she has been raised with all of her brothers). She will be most happy in a home with a good mix of cats and people.

top

Lily

Meet Lily. Born December 2008, this petite kitten is all about girl power.

She is younger and smaller than all the other cats in her foster home and less that half the size or weight of some of them, but she knows she is in charge. Lily does not seem to be fazed by the neighborhood dogs who visit her front porch but because of her "take charge" attitude, older children would be best.

She is a happy extrovert: curious, fearless and self confident. She likes people and may follow you around and try to get in on whatever you are up to (humans are so entertaining, aren't they?). But when she slows down, a good lap and cuddle is just the ticket for her.

Even if you don't see the perfect cat for you in this list, you can start the adoption process by filling out our I'm Interested form or calling 503-284-8768 to find out about cats that haven't been listed here yet.

Blake

Blake has designated himself as the official door greeter in his foster home, earning him the nickname "Mr. Personality."

This boy loves people and being in the middle of whatever is going on. Occasionally he will start up a conversation with you, especially if he thinks he might talk you into a treat or a snack.

He is always up for a lap or scratch, or a good play session if you are.

Blake is tolerant of other cats as long as they are respectful ... or fun, like Lily (see above), who rules his foster home and will occasionally pick him to play or sleep with.

Arnie

Arnie decided that being indoors during the December cold spell was infinitely better than being outside, and it didn't take long to decide that was the life for him.

Arnie is looking for a fairly quiet home where he does not have to compete with other pets and can have his own people. Attentive, pet friendly older children or settled adults would be perfect for this big guy.

Arnie takes his time getting to know you, but once he does he's a great lap warmer, and will wander up for lots of snuggles and petting.

This big boy's litter box habits are impeccable, and he enjoys giving the scratching post a good working over when needed. Toys aren't his bag - he prefers quiet exploration of his home and watching the world go by from the back of a comfortable couch, when he's not trying out new sleeping places that is.

top

Frankie

Born in November 2007, Frankie is a Siamese-mix who is just a delight. He is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside. Sometimes known as Mr. Personality, there isn't anyone (human or feline) that dislikes Frankie - he is very charming.

This easy-going boy has made friends with his two male foster-mates, so we know his permanent home needs to have least one other cat. In fact, he has bonded fairly tightly with one of the cats he's "rooming" with.

Frankie also adores people and is going to make a terrific companion for his adoptive parent(s) as well. Besides his blue eyes, he also inherited the Siamese trait of loving to talk. He's not obnoxious about it, but he would like to share what he's done all day with you. He's working on the art of listening, but that's not quite as developed yet.

He is a certified lap cat who wants a home where his people have time to spend with him.

Toffee

Toffee is a 9 year-old calico who loves to nap and curl up with you. She has a beautiful long-haired coat and is fastidious about maintaining it! Toffee likes to chase string and hunt her little white mouse toy. Interestingly enough, after catching her toys, she likes to flop down and contemplate the situation; she is a very smart cat.

Toffee enjoys being with people, and her favorite activity is lying on top of a willing tummy or chest, acting as a lovely calico blanket.

Toffee has a very calm manner but is definitely her own girl and dances to her own beat. She will make someone a great companion, but children might not care for her independent nature. She is a cat who knows that she is a cat!

Toffee enjoys her meals but, enviably, manages to keep her girlish figure. Catnip is a favorite snack. Above all, she will be a wonderfully affectionate and well-behaved companion!

Gringo

When Gringo was first noticed hanging out on the front porch of his foster home, we thought he was feral. It took a couple of months before we could touch him, but once he began to trust us, it quickly became apparent that he once had a home.

After being brought inside to live, there was no turning back for Gringo. He made it very clear that he is quite happy to be a house cat and immediately made himself at home sleeping on the bed and hanging out with the other cats. Gringo nowhas the confidence you would expect from a boy his size, and it is hard to imagine he was once a timid, frightened stray sleeping on the front porch.

These days, everyone is Gringo's friend - whether they be human or feline. He loves to be picked up and held, and will lie happily in your arms while looking into your eyes as if he is saying how much he adores you.

Mooch

Mooch showed up at our back door telling us that he was abandoned, needed love, and was HUNGRY!

He needed to be neutered and have an abscess treated on his face, so off he went to the vet. During his recuperation, we discovered that he loves belly rubs. Just like a dog he'll roll over on his back and then if you give him belly rubs, he'll lick your hand. He does appreciate attention.

Mooch is indifferent to our dogs, and tolerant of our other cats after slow introductions. He let the neighborhood girls pick him up and carry him around - he just can't get enough love!!!

He is great at keeping people company and loves lap time, a big hug, snuggles, a warm bed and, of course, his wet food.

For a young adult, Mooch is quite small in stature, but he has a huge heart to share with a loving family. Please consider adopting him and giving him all the love, attention, belly rubs, and cuddles he desires, along with tasty, regular meals.

Alex, Ben, & Seth

Born around the end of May 2009, this fun-loving litter is a wonderful bundle of entertainment!

Alex is a sweet, loving, gentle but very playful, little boy who loves to be held. Because of his looks and personality, it's possible he is part Maine Coon. He's very small now, but we're guessing he will become a big cat. His long hair will help with that look.

Ben is another long-haired boy who is polydactyl on the front paws. He looks like he is wearing a baseball mitt! He is one of the most friendly, outgoing kittens ever. Ben doesn't seem afraid of anything, loves attention and is also a purr machine. He has the easy going personality of most Tuxedos. It may be his big feet, but he might end up being a big cat like his brother.

Seth is the short-haired kitten in the litter, and "Team Captain" of all the kitten games. He is the most playful of the bunch and dominates every game. He has the FASTEST reflexes ever! With his normal toe count and short hair, he stands out from the pack. Like his siblings, he loves to be held and cuddled.
