Available Cats

You can start the adoption process by filling out our I'm Interested form or contact us at 503-402-8692.

All of our cats live with volunteers in a foster home where we evaluate them to find out how they interact with people and other pets. Knowing these personality traits helps us choose the best families for our cats, and helps you choose the cat that's perfect for you. Unless otherwise noted, all cats are FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) negative and have been spayed or neutered.

Think you want a kitten? Everyone wants a cute kitten, but kittens grow up rapidly. At 6 months they are not nearly as cute as they were at 8 weeks. They are fully grown at 1 year and can live over 20 years. If you think you want a kitten, ask yourself these questions.

Please note: Due to our adoption process, cats are available for adoption in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, and Clark counties only.

Some of our cats have YouTube videos where you can see them in action:

Ellie & ChloeChloe

Ellie and her daughter Chloe were refugees who turned up at the workplace of one of our volunteers. Ellie was friendly to people, especially the ones who came to feed her every day. But she was protective of Chloe, who stayed in the bushes and would only come out once Mom had tasted the food and gave her the ok to come out and eat.

Once we had exhausted all possibilities of finding their original family with no success, we took Chloe and Ellie home and then to the vet for thorough check-ups and spay surgeries. We guess Ellie to be about 2 years old and Chloe was born around August 1, 2011, so she's now 6 months old.

Although they enjoy each other's company, they are not particularly bonded and Ellie in particular would be fine living as the only cat in a home. Neither one of them is bothered by other cats or the large, friendly dog in their current foster home. Both of these girls took instantly to the indoor life, and love having soft beds, good window views of the bird and squirrel feeders, and something tall to climb when it's time to get away from it all.

Ellie is a very quiet and well-mannered lady. She enjoys being close to her people, being petted, and some gentle playtime with her toys. She's not the least bit demanding but she does enjoy a peaceful household without the noise and activity of young children.

Ellie

Ellie would be a fine companion for someone who enjoys reading, watching movies, knitting, or other relaxing activities which can be enhanced by having a quietly purring cat nearby.

Chloe is more playful, as we would expect from a kitten. She loves toys and playing with other cats, so we're looking for a home with another young cat or kitten to be a playmate for her. Chloe likes to get on top of the cat tree where everyone in the household must pass by frequently. There she demands a toll of a few pets and a scratch behind the ears, and in return she gives a big purr, a little chirp, and some head butts.

Ellie and Chloe have perfect litter box habits, excellent house manners, and no food or medical issues. They have been spayed, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, microchipped, and are up to date on vaccines. If you'd like to meet one or both of this pair, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

Curtis & CeciliaCecilia & Curtis

Curtis and Cecilia are a brother-sister pair, and what a pair they are! These kittens were born in September 2011, and they've been on the move ever since. A box, a bag, a ball, a speck on the wall--anything can be a toy for these two. Even for kittens, these two are packed with extra energy and we are looking for a home where their rambunctious antics will be appreciated. That means a home where their people have time to spend playing with them every day, and which isn't full of delicate, valuable objects. Curtis and Cecilia are closely bonded and must be adopted as a pair.

Although they are young and frisky, Curtis and Cecilia are learning house manners, including staying off the counters and not scratching the furniture. They have their own scratching posts and cardboard pads, and are agreeable about having their nails trimmed. Their litter box habits are excellent, and they have no special food or medical needs, other than high quality kibble and some canned food every day to keep them strong and healthy as they grow up.

Once they've burned up their energy quota for the day, Curtis and Cecilia do love to snuggle on a lap for quiet time. If they get lots of play time during the day, they'll sleep all night, and they expect to sleep on the bed with their people. So far they love all the people and cats they have met, but we haven't tested them with dogs and toddlers.

Curtis and Cecilia have been neutered and spayed, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV and are up to date on vaccines. If you'd like to meet this entertaining duo, please fill out our I'm Interested form.CeciliaCurtis

TeddyTeddy

Teddy is another of those lucky cats who manage to find their way to the home of one of our volunteers when they are lost and scared. It's very unusual to find a long-haired white Persian wandering the streets, and we spent quite a lot of time and effort trying to reunite Teddy with his family. After months of searching, no one has stepped forward to claim Teddy, so we're ready to help him find his forever home.

We had Teddy thoroughly examined by our vet, and we guess his age to be between 4 and 6 years. Somewhere along the way, Teddy ran into some trouble, and he has a few scars to show for it. His left eye has an abrasion, which has healed into a small black spot, which you can see in the photos. There is nothing to do about it now, and he still has vision in the eye, but eye drops help keep it from getting further irritated. He's also missing a thumb, and one of his canine teeth goes sideways. None of this bothers Teddy and he eats a normal diet and has perfect litter box habits.

TeddyTeddy is very cuddly, mellow, and easygoing. He gets along well with all the people and cats at his foster home, although we haven't tested him out with dogs. He likes to be kenneled, and if a carrier is left open, you'll soon find Teddy curled up inside it. Teddy needs to stay indoors for the rest of his life, but he thinks he wants to go outside if the door is left open, so he needs a home where everyone understands the need to watch and monitor Teddy when doors are opened and closed.

As with all Persian cats, Teddy's face and coat require more maintenance than your average cat. His coat must be groomed at least every other day, slowly and gently, and the area under his eyes can be cleaned with contact lens solution and a soft toothbrush to keep him looking and feeling his best.

Teddy has been neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, and is up to date on vaccines. If you'd like to meet Teddy, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

BeezusBeezus

Beezus is a 1-year-old, short-haired black and white female. She was rescued with her two kittens, who have now left the nest for their own forever homes. Now that she's raised her babies, Beezus is ready to find her own forever home.

Beezus is small, but is bursting with playful energy and affection. She loves to wrestle, snuggle, and play chase with her foster brother and sister, and would be best suited in a home with at least one other active cat. Her favorite toys are hair-ties and the cat tunnel. She loves food, especially the addition of a little wet food to her regular meals.

Although Beezus isn’t very talkative, she has the most unbelievable, strong, sweet purr (it’s hard to believe a purr like that can come from a cat her size!). Though playful, she enjoys chin rubs and likes to spend a few minutes each day in her foster parents' laps. She likes to sleep on the bed at night (and especially prefers the foot area, but please don't kick her), and greets her people in the morning with a purr and a nuzzle.

Beezus truly is one of the most delightful cats we have ever met, and will make someone a wonderful companion. She is looking for a home where she can have some cat company to play with, in addition to people for play time. If you'd like to meet Beezus, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

WendyWendy

Wendy came to us when her family moved away and left her. She went door to door trying to find another family, but got no takers. For several months, neighbors put out food for Wendy and felt sorry for her, but nobody would take her in. Finally one of the neighbors realized that Wendy needed more help than they could give, and contacted us.

Wendy's first stop was at the vet, where we found that she had been spayed, is about 4 years old and in very good health. She is a very sweet girl, in spite of her ordeal, and has lots of affection for her foster family. Wendy likes to chat, she wants lot of petting and she gives head butts in return. It's hard to imagine how anyone could leave her behind, but we know it happens every day. Wendy

Wendy loves to play and show off with her toys, including her favorite, Da Bird! She is inquisitive and enjoys observing the goings-on of her foster family, and sitting in her favorite window perch to watch the activities of the world outside. She is also quite content to nap or amuse herself when no one is available to play with her. We find her to be perfect company: affectionate and playful, but not too demanding.

Wendy learned to be cautious during her time living outside, and she's still a little anxious about being picked up and handled, so we are looking for a home with no young children who might forget Wendy's feelings about being grabbed. She gets along with well-behaved dogs, but we believe she'd prefer to be the only cat in her new family. Wendy has excellent litter box manners and no special diet or medical requirements.

Wendy, like all ARCF cats for adoption, has been spayed, microchipped, is up to date on vaccines, and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV. If you'd like to meet Wendy, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

FinneganJasmine & Finnegan

Finnegan and Jasmine are 1-year-olds that got their start in a wood pile. They were pretty frightened at first, but have learned that people=good, fun, food, and comfort. Both love to cuddle and knead on your lap, purring all the time. They are also big fans of sleeping on the bed with their person or people, and would like to put “bed warmer” on their Forever Home Wish List.

Finn and Jasmine are both quiet talkers who listen very well, always interested in how your day went. Finnegan likes to wake his foster mom each morning with a chorus of soft mews and purrs, but has been known to walk up and down her if she takes too long to get breakfast on the table. Jasmine is a little more ladylike and patient, and considerately waits until her foster mom is at least upright before she starts a morning conversation. After a little chatting and breakfast, it’s time to play! Both kitties love to romp around the house, chasing the pesky red laser light or batting one of their toys around (squeezy balls are a favorite!).

JasmineBoth Finn and Jasmine are good eaters who are not too picky. They are also happy to chase their treats and kibble around in a SlimCat ball, which helps expend some energy while they’re playing and eating. They are great about brushing (because they want all the pets and love they can get) and tolerate nail trimming. They are the perfect mix of adult (great hygiene, well-mannered, always use the litter box) and kitten fun. If you’d like to meet me, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

Jamie & Jasper

Have you been thinking of adopting a cat, but concerned about having enough time for them or enough square footage for them to roam? Worried about them tearing up your home? Well, your solution is Jasper and Jamie!

These boys are very well-behaved teenagers. Born in May 2011, they're a little shy upon meeting strangers, but in their foster home they have become quite affectionate. They spend much of their day on their cat tree looking out the window, enjoying the fresh air and watching the antics of the birds and squirrels. Then maybe they will have a nap followed by some wrestling. These boys are very good at entertaining themselves. Jamie is the boss of this outfit, and he can't wait for somebody to get down on the floor and make a lap. Jasper prefers to stretch out nearby, in position for a belly rub. He keeps an eye on Jamie for clues about what is ok and what isn't.

Jamie and Jasper are such loves now that they feel safe with their foster mom. They may be shy and hide a bit in a new home but a sure-fire way to win them over is with food!! Canned food, dry food, chicken bits—they'll eat anything. Food is a great way to start a bond with them. When their foster mom arrives with their canned food they are all over her, climbing and meowing. When their bellies are full, they settle down and cuddle with her or if she is willing to play, they will happily chase the feather toy or laser light.

Jamie and Jasper are in a busy foster home, so they are used to keeping themselves occupied. As long as their new home has love to give, a warm bed, some time to play and snuggle, and food, of course, they will be very happy. They are great, low-maintenance companions for someone willing to give them the permanent home they desire. They seem interested in the dogs and other cats in their foster home, and probably would get along with any friendly pet, given a proper introduction. Jamie and Jasper are up to date on their vaccines, neutered, and ready to go home with their special person or people, so if you are interested in meeting Jamie and Jasper, please fill out our I'm Interested form.JasperJamie

chico1Chico

My name is Chico and I'm told that I am a very special kitty who needs a special home. I lived a hard life starting out, and only recently discovered the comforts and joys of being an indoor cat after my foster mom noticed me wandering around her neighborhood. As a result of my years taking care of myself outside, I contracted Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Having FIV means that I have a compromised immune system, but with lots of good care, food, and love, I will live a very long and healthy life.

Since I was rescued off the street, my foster mom doesn’t know exactly when I was born, but the vet guesses that it was sometime in 2006. Nonetheless, I have maintained my kittenish ways and I love to play!! One of my favorite new things about being an indoor kitty is sleeping on the bed with my people and I will want to do that in my new forever home, too. I don't take up much room and I am very quiet, so I promise not to bother your sleep. chico

Since moving in with my foster parents, I have discovered that I love people! I want to be close to them, and often follow my foster mom around the house, just waiting for pets and attention. She says I'm about the sweetest cat she's ever met and that whoever adopts me will be the luckiest person ever. I can’t stay with her forever, though, because the other cats get a little jealous that I get so much attention. After all, I am a handsome boy and quite the charmer. I have pale green eyes and a sleek and shiny tabby coat. I keep myself very clean (sometimes I groom a little too much and I end up a little bare of hair in places, but I do it less now that I feel more secure in my home).

My new family should know that I have special food that I eat that prevents me from getting crystals in my urine, which is very painful and dangerous. It's important that I stay on my special diet for the rest of my life so that I don't have to go through that ever again. I have a lot of love to give and I think it makes up for my special needs. I know there is someone out there for me. Could it be you?

I am neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all of my vaccines, of course! If you’d like to meet me, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

Shiloh & Maddox

These littermates, born in the fall of 2006, are very bonded to eachother. Their personalities and appearance are so distinctive that you would not guess they are related, but they are as close as can be.

Shiloh is light-colored, with the striking blue eyes of a Siamese and the gorgeous striped tail of a tabby. She is a dainty eater and somewhat petite in stature. She loves, loves, loves to play, and will run to initiate a game of hide-and-seek or graba toy when you walk into the room. Her favorite pastime is to crouch inside of something and spring out like a jack-in-the-box. She is friendly but also very active, preferring to be on the move instead of lounging around.

Maddox is a brown tabby with a stout build who reminds us of a favorite huggable teddy bear. He loves to eat, and always looks forward to mealtime. He greets you with mews and leg rubs, just waiting for you to plop down so he can crawl into your lap. If you don't get the hint in short order, he will reach out with a paw and tap you as a reminder that he's ready for some petting. He has an adorable tail that is half-length, with a little bend at the tip. He is less active than Shiloh, and loves to burrow under his blanket at naptime.

Shiloh and Maddox have been spayed and neutered and are up to date with their vaccines. To meet this loving duo, please fill out our I'm Interested form.

kitkatKitKat

KitKat is a stubby Manx who is approximately nine years old. She had a rough life that didn’t include vet care, healthy food, attention, love, or even clean litter.KitKat and two other cats were left to live alone in a house with no human attention other than someone stopping by now and then to leave them food. Despite this, she is very loving and well-mannered and now that she's getting good care in a great foster home, KitKat's personality shines! Now she is head greeter in her foster home and gives everyone a big hello when they come to visit.

KitKat is loving and sweet-natured and excellent with her litter box (now that she finally has one to enjoy). She is definitely an alpha female, and is looking for a home where she can be queen bee and rule her people without having to put up with any other cats.

Despite her age, KitKat is very athletic and energetic, and often on the go. She does like to rest and relax in a lap for a while, but then will leap up to check out something she has heard or seen. Next thing you know, she’s back to sniff your hair or investigate your ears. This girl keeps herself busy! She is a bit of a "guard cat" that is always alert for intruders on the lawn. KitKat loves her catnip toys, and especially enjoys grabbing at them with her back feet while holding them captive with her front paws. Plastic and paper bags number among her favorite things to crawl into.

KitKat is very loving and purrs loudly and often. Don’t be fooled by her serious pictures; this girl is so playful and spunky most of the time! She knows her own mind and is very confident.

KitKat has been spayed and microchipped, and is ready to find her forever home. If you’re interested in meeting this endearing girl, please fill out our I'm Interested form.
