About AdoptingHere’s how our adoption process works: 1. You call us because you’re interested in adopting a pet. 2. One of our volunteers interviews you, to see if we might have a pet that is a match for you (or if the pet you’re interested in is a good match). During the interview, the volunteer determines if you have the type of home we’re looking for. For example, she might ask if you have children (and what ages they are), do you have other pets, have you had cats/dogs before, where do you live, who is your regular vet, is anyone at home during the day, etc. (Please note that there are no “right” answers - it really depends on which pet you’re interested in.) 3. A volunteer drives to your house to check it out. She looks for various things, such as a fenced-in yard, screens on the windows, house/yard are well taken care of, street is quiet (not a lot of traffic), etc. 4. You and your entire family go to the volunteer’s home to meet the pet, to see if everyone likes everyone else. If everyone does, you can either take the pet home that day, or think about it for awhile, to make sure you’re making the right decision. 5. You sign the Animal Rescue & Care Fund contract, which stipulates (among other things) that you take the pet to the vet at least once per year (for shots and an exam), if for any reason you can no longer take care of the pet then you return the pet to us, all other pets in your family are spayed/neutered, you will not declaw a cat, etc. 6. You take the pet home, along with the “starter kit” we provide (good-quality dry and canned food, good-quality carrier, litter box, litter, scoop, toys, dog leash, dog treats/bones, etc.). 7. We will call you two or three times to make sure everything is working out with your new pet, and to see if you have any questions (of course you can always call us any time, day or night, with concerns/questions). 8. Everyone lives happily ever after! |
