Tips ServicesFinding a Vet/Groomer/Boarder/etc.Where do you look for competent services? To help you provide the best care for your small pet, you must find a service with the necessary experience, equipment, and a trained staff. You want to find someone who is knowledgeable in the various needs, behaviors, diseases and responses to drugs that your animal might have. There are many sources that can refer you to good services. Your best referral source is other people: family, friends or coworkers who own the same type of pet that you wish to get or already have. Don’t just ask these people who they use--ask them why they like that particular service. Get specific details. Another source is rescue organizations, who have had many opportunities to seek veterinary care and should have a good idea about who in the area knows his or her stuff about small animals. Don’t forget to inquire at your local pet store. Keep in mind, however, that you’re only asking for a referral, not medical advice. Most pet store employees are not qualified to give veterinary advice. You also can call your local area veterinary association to ask who in your area has a good reputation. Finally, you can check the yellow pages, but remember that just because the ad says the clinic/groomer/etc. treats your type of pet, that doesn’t mean the staff really knows what it is doing. |
